Protosonic CD Release

Bio

Gabe Maldonado and Chris Pederson had been playing together off and on
in various projects since they were thirteen. The two of them had developed
their styles side by side. Styles that were both the cause and the result of the
other’s, like a stereo version of a common idea. The band started as a bass
and drums duo named Element back in 1999. They took their time developing
and writing what became their first demo “A Scary Place”. It was just the
two of them for a couple of years before they opened up to a new influence.
They met Chris Budin in the Denver music scene and knew he would fit in
well with the duo. His contribution is depth and breadth to the sound. He
also adds an energy that can be found not only in the music but also in the air
surrounding him. With the new addition, the three became Protosonic.
Another couple of years of evolution produced the sound that makes up half
of the 2004 release “Where Trees Go to Die”. The other half shows the
symbiosis that Gabe and Chris fell into in those formative years.
As they are looking to release a new EP “Dignity in Deviance” this spring,
they stand in awe of the ease at which Protosonic was formed wondering if
it could possibly last. Maybe, maybe not, but that’s not really the point. Music
is fleeting and CDs are snapshots. Enjoy the memories but more so, enjoy the
band as it is right now and as it evolves. It will be beautiful.
