Bio

Denver based Oakhurst plays fast, loud and rowdy roots rock with a bluegrass injection. Unlike most bands the combo also has an alter ego. Oakhurst, due to years of street performance or “buskering”, possesses the ability to perform as a string quartet that gives it to you tender, sweet and old timey. In clubs they often just do both to keep the crowd guessing. Which ever approach they are using, Oakhurst delivers an intense live experience that has won fans all across Colorado & 11 other states. Their broad appeal & versatility has landed them a place on the Big Bender record label as well as countless gigs, festivals, benefits & private parties.

In Denver alone Oakhurst has performed in over 30 venues, most notably the Bluebird, Ogden and Gothic Theaters. Oakhurst has shared the stage with local favorites such as Nina Storey, the Reals, Matt Moon, Drag the River, Wendy Woo as well as Big Bender label mates Railbenders, Buckskin Stallion and Marty Jones. The combo has also primed crowds for national acts such as the Hackensaw Boys, Victor Wooten, Bela Fleck, The Yard Dogs Roadshow & Rusted Root’s Michael Glabicki. Since the band has discovered that their last album Greenhorn was getting unsolicited airplay in Italy, Belgium & the Netherlands they are working hard on getting across the pond to share their wares as well.

This summer will be the busiest yet for the band with invitations to Red Rocks, New Belgium’s Tour De Fat, Chatfield Music Festival (in support of Nickel Creek & Junior Brown) and headlining several other Colorado Music Festivals. [See Calendar] The band is also organizing a benefit for Guidestone farms [a non-profit all organic farm in Loveland, CO] at Mishawaka Amphitheater in September.

A new record with the working title DUAL MONO is slated for release this summer. For this project Oakhurst is collaborating with Matt Kowal of the Reals who is acting as producer and zen master. The band is recording this one in cabins, barns and other rural places across Colorado to avoid the clock ticking feel of urban studios and the results so far, although not yet complete, have been amazing.
