Over 70 and Mose Allison is still one of the heppest oldsters around. His songs have been covered by John Mayall, the Who, the Clash, Eric Clapton Elvis Costello, Bonnie Raitt, Leon Russell and Van Morrison among many others. Although the rock community has embraced him, he has been influenced by such jazz and blues artists as Nat King Cole, Louis Armstrong and Erroll Garner to name just a few. In the late ’50s he worked as an accompanist for Stan Getz. Mose Allison is/was one of the first to effectively blend country, blues and jazz. His headstrong bittersweet, wickedly funny takes on life have inspired coutless singers like Randy Newman and Tom Waits. Althoug he is known for his songs he started as a pianist and he usually starts his concerts with a series of idiosyncratic piano solos.
