Harmonious Junk is a Funk Fueled Improvisational Rock band led by former lead guitarist of the James Brown Band, Damon Wood. After touring the world some dozen times over with “The Godfather Of Soul”, from 98’ to 06’, Wood decided to leave his role as sideman and featured soloist for JB to focus full time on his own outlet, Harmonious Junk, awarded the “Best Jamband” in the Westword Magazine’s Best of Denver 2005 issue. Again in 06’ nominated in the Best Jam/Improv group category, Damon and the band were also featured in Relix Magazine, in 05’, as one of the hottest new bands on the scene. The group has received glowing reviews of it’s first studio effort,“Space Cadet” by Westword magazine, Relix magazine, and Marquee magazine. Relix writer Mick Skidmore called the debut disc,“superbly crafted” and spoke of, “the beautifully haunting title cut which features pirrouhetting leads counter-pointed by delicate piano work that highlight the sophistication of this ensemble.” With styles ranging from Heavy Funk Rock to Spacy Psychedelic Jazz to Cosmic Comic Craziness, the Junk has also been called “the Denver party band du jour”, by Colorado Springs Independent’s Aaron Ritka. HJ features DW on guitar and vocals, Sam Smith on Bass, part time member Chad Aman on Keyboards, who also plays with Byron Shaw Projex and fronts his own Avant Garde Drum and Bass Nu Jazz group “Cocktail Revolution”, awarded “Best Jazz Band in Denver 06’ Westword”, and rounding out the band is the newest addition, superbly talented Saxophonist Pete Wall, of the group Textiles. Our drummer situation is up in the air right now as we will be trying out several people for the position. Presently, HJ is at work on their second album, featuring the live favorite, Too Cocky In Nagasaki, as well as… Lunar, Galactic Glove, Hippy Girl, Lady Luck, Eggshells, Get Real With Me and others. The first studio CD, Space Cadet (04’) is available on iTunes, Independent Records, Tower Records.com, and Cdbaby.com/harmoniousjunk. Or just contact us directly. The world lost maybe it’s greatest living performer on Christmas day 06’, the incomparable James Brown. Having had the wonderful opportunity to play with him for almost 8 years is something I will always feel blessed and thankful for. He was an unending source of strength and determination with an incredible energy and a great sense of humor. People will always speculate on his personal battles but I will remember the man who rocked so many houses, so many towns, so many countries, and I will remember the smiles and the tears on the faces of the fans he loved and lived for. I will remember the laughter he could generate in a single moment on stage or off with his silliness and charm. He gave us all so much good advice over the years I just hope we can remember and carry on in his tradition. I know I will try my best in his honor. We send all our love to James Brown, his family, the band members current and past, and the extended family and fans across the world. See you on the gridiron boss. The world will never forget you. With love and respect Damon Wood 1/18/07————————————————————NEW SONGS ON OUR MYSPACE PLAYER. Four new live tracks from our Jackson Hole gig January 12th, 07.
