It was back in 1991 that Hardrive a.k.a Ralph Turner was brought to his first party. That night changed his life forever; he could not get the sounds of the electronic music out of his brain. From that point on all he wanted to do was find out when the next party was. He moved from city to city throughout the years going to parties all over the United States. He moved to Houston T.X. back in 1993, where he was going to parties all the time. It was a few years later that Hardrive was given a mixed tape from someone that he knew. The tape was mixed by Steve Thomas. He had no idea who this guy was at the time but he knew that his style of music rocked the FUCKIN’ house. Hardrive did not know at the time the style of music was U.K. Hardhouse / nu-nrg, he just knew it was banging. It wasn’t till a year later that he found a cd in the store that said, “TRADE” on it. He recognized the name of one of the dj’s on the cd, “Steve Thomas”. That’s when he found out what the style of music he loved so much was called. This is why hardrive play’s Hard House!!! It was in 1996 that Hardrive moved to Miami F.L. and met a guy named Miguel (Dj Messiah) that lived right down the road. Hardrive would go over to his house and would learn how to match beats and do tricks. Dj Messiah knew that Hardrive really wanted to learn how to spin, so when he bought new turntables and a mixer, he sold his old stuff to Hardrive. Hardrive then had his first pair of turntables and a mixer. He was the happiest person in the world; he would go to the record store for hours every week listening to everything. Hardrive practiced religiously everyday, even if he was busy, Hardrive would find time to spin a few records. After about a year of spinning Hardrive could match beats and do a few tricks here and there with the mixer. He felt comfortable enough now, to start trying to get booked. He would make mix cd’s and give them to every promoter in Florida. It was not long before Hardrive was recognized for this unique style he played in city that was dominated by breaks and jungle at raves and progressive trance and progressive house in South Beach nightclubs. Hardrive was now playing at some of the biggest events, spinning with some of the world’s best talent like; Carl Cox, Donald Glaude, Fat Boy Slim, Rabbit in the Moon, Hybrid, Uber Zone, Crystal Method, Dj Craze, Deep Sky, George Acosta, Sandra Collins, Armand Van Helden, Tall Paul, Dj Rap, and so many more. With Hardrive being one of the only dj’s in Florida to spin U.K. Hard House, he decided it was time to push the sound to the next level. He was determined to educate the people in Florida to this sound he loved so much. It was in the year 2000 Hardrive decided to create his own crew that would organize parties that would cater more towards the hard dance sound. In 2001 Hardrive organized an event with over 70 dj’s and over a dozen of them were Hard Dance dj’s. This was the first event ever on the East Coast of the United States that displayed more Hard Dance music than any other party at this time. This was a ground- breaking moment for U.K. Hard House in the United States. Over the past two years hardrive has organized over a dozen events that would all display hard dance. It was in the year 2002 that Hardrive organized an event that would have the first international hard dance dj’s in Florida; Steve Ryan and Riksta from Fevah Records played at this event that had over 2000 attendees. Now in 2003, Hardrive is working with his new close friends from Fevah USA to help progress the sounds to the next level in the United States. Hardrive is also working with his close friend Johny Mac on producing some tracks that should be out sometime this year. If you get a chance to see Hardrive spin, call the ambulance early because your heart is going to stop from dancing to hard!!! |
