Attractive is of rich musical pedigree. Frank Vicario and Dustin Perry were long-standing members of hard rock mainstay Snapcase, touring the world several times during their tenure. New Zealand native Benjamin Lythberg spent his first years in the States as “drum tech extraordinaire” for Rancid and Sick of it All, eventually graduating to a stint in Autopilot Off, and a permanent slot in the aforementioned Snapcase. Enter singer-songwriter Josh English. A left coast transplant, English got his sea-legs at the helm of Boston-based indie-pop trio Six Going On Seven. After a slew of releases and time served, 2004 found both camps faced with the impending dissolution of their respective outfits.
The three Snapcase boys continued to play and write together, working on new material. Meanwhile, English was hard at work demoing songs for an eventual solo release. Fate intervened and the two camps met through mutual friends. What initially seemed to some an unlikely pairing, the four of them hit it off. A few months of tape trading and long commutes followed, and Attractive was born. Dead serious about low art, this three song debut summons the ghosts of postpunk past, present and future; familiar yet decidedly modern. Everything they learned and a few things they refuse to. |
